First, identify exactly what you have
Value starts with the precise model. Find the brand and model name on the body, and note the lens and any model variant. Two cameras that look similar can be worth very different amounts, so pin down the exact model before comparing prices.
Brand and model desirability
A handful of brands and specific models carry strong collector demand, while most mass-produced cameras are modest. Sought-after rangefinders, certain SLRs with desirable lenses, medium-format cameras, and especially premium compacts can command real money; the everyday point-and-shoot usually does not. Where your model sits on that spectrum is the biggest single factor.
Working condition
A fully working, serviced camera is worth more than the same model untested or in need of repair — often substantially more. Completeness and accessories

To estimate value, look at what comparable examples have actually sold for recently — not optimistic listings. Match the model, condition, and completeness as closely as you can. Asking prices and “catalog” figures can run far above what cameras really change hands for.
The film-revival effect
Demand from people shooting film has pushed certain models up sharply in recent years — most notably premium compacts and well-regarded classics — while others stay inexpensive. If your camera is one of the hyped models, it may be worth far more than its original price; if not, it is likely a modest user camera.
